Tesla will make its debut in India in summer this year. The fresh revelation made by Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has made it the hot topic for discussion among auto enthusiasts. Well-known for offering the most advanced electronics, the US-based electric carmaker is expected to generate a lot of interest in the Indian market.
Tesla is expected to introduce the brand in the country sometime by the second quarter of this year. However, we believe that it might take a year or more for Tesla cars to hit our roads as the brand is yet to set up charging stations, as well as sales and service stations in the country. Though the company has not detailed its business plan for India, we believe that the new outlets might initially be set up in major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.
Tesla has also been looking forward to set up its manufacturing facility in India. Nitin Gadkari, minister of road, transport and highways has offered land for Tesla setup during his visit to the Tesla factory last year. The setup will be situated close to major ports to enable easy export to South and South East Asian countries. Localisation will also help Tesla to price its products smartly in a competitive market like ours, as well as contribute strongly towards make in India initiative.
Though the company might announce its debut in the country soon, the cars will take about a year or more to be rolled out as the company is yet to overcome the logistic challenges. Additional details on Tesla’s future plans will be known in the coming days.
