Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that the company will be introducing its new compact SUV, the Model Y. The new compact SUV will reportedly be based on the Model 3 platform. This also helps the brand complete the ‘S3XY’ lineup, which they have been longing for quite some time now.
Recently the company had also revealed its plans to introduce the Model X in UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show. As for the Model Y, the vehicle will be introduced in the market after the launch of Model 3 and it is believed that it could be priced around a similar range. Though much details about the Model Y is not known for now, reports indicate that the upcoming compact SUV might get Falcon Wing doors. Adding further the company anticipates to witness demand for Model Y to be in between 5,00,000 to 1 million units post launch.
Reports indicate that Tesla Motors is also working on a mini bus project that might be built over the Model X chassis. Moreover, the company might also work on expanding its range of body styles and transport options, while also increasing the role of autonomous driving technology. At a later date the company also expects to see customers adding their cars to a Tesla ride sharing fleet and use it when they are not driving it. The compact SUV is expected to be offered with loads of modern safety features and more about it will be known in the coming months.
