Tesla Motors Inc has announced that it will be handing pink slips to its employees in China as a part of its restructuring plan. The premium electric vehicle maker hasn’t declared the number of jobs that will be slayed, but there are rumours that about 30 per cent of its employees will be jobless.
Currently, the company employs 600 people in China and if rumours are to be believed at least 180 of them will be fired. Tesla spokesman Gary Tao, said that some positions are being eliminated, some are being added, but the overall headcount has gone down in a restructuring drive announced earlier this year.
"The first strategy is to build up a strong and efficient team to respond more quickly to the market, so this is part of the effort to implement that strategy," Tao said.
Tesla’s sales targets were missed and it seems like a lot of heads rolled due to this reason.
