- Taycan means ‘lively, young horse’
- It will get over 600bhp and 500km range
- Production Taycan will reach global dealers in 2019
Porsche’s Mission E concept had envisaged a stylish sedan that would match all other Porsches in performance and its electric powertrain will run for over 300 miles at least in a single charge. Well, the Mission E concept has been built and the production car will be known as the Taycan.
Taycan means ‘a lively, young horse’ and is inspired by the stallion engraved in the legendary Porsche logo. The Taycan looks futuristic with the quad-LED headlamps up front and the sculpted fascia that is a modern take on the classic 911 lines. The tail-light strip across the rear is the new Porsche signature which stands out thanks to the diffused lighting.
Under the hood, the Taycan will have electric motors and a battery pack and practically no noise except for that of the running tyres. The motors will give out a combined output of over 600bhp with a 0-100kmph dash in less than 3.5 seconds. And when you drive it easy, it will run for over 500kms in a single charge.
The base model of the Taycan will get about 400bhp of power but a similar range and might be priced a tad below $100,000 (approx. Rs 60 lakh). The top-of the line Taycan might go well up to $125,000 (approx. Rs 85 lakh) in the European market. With the lack of charging infrastructure, the chances of the Taycan coming to India anytime soon are almost non-existent. But with the new draft policy which eliminates homologation, Porsche might import the Taycan for those who would want one.
