Tata Motors, a popular name in the utility vehicle segment has been working on its latest SUV codenamed Q501. The upcoming vehicle will be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Recently, the vehicle has been spotted on test minus any camouflage, thereby revealing a few details on the upcoming product. The vehicle will get features, technology and style upgrades from the JLR stable.
Based on what can be seen in images, the upcoming vehicle gets taillamps borrowed from the Discovery Sport, though the front is not visible for now, it is expected to get similar upgrades. A familiar Range Rover badging can been seen in the C-Pillar, however this might not be offered on the production ready model. The interior will also be borrowed from the Discovery Sport and will get a large infotainment system on the dashboard.
The Indian automaker has chooses to remain tightlipped about the vehicle’s technical specification. However, it is likely that the upcoming model might be powered by a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine from JLR. Alternatively, reports also indicate on the possibility of a 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine from Fiat on offer. The upcoming vehicle might also get AWD system with Range Rover’s Terrain Response program. The new model will be available manual as well as automatic transmission options.
As for safety, the vehicle is expected to get multiple airbags and ABS as standard. The new model might be launched sometime in 2018 and it may emerge as a strong competitor against Toyota’s Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Post launch, Tata Motors might position the Q501 above the Hexa SUV. Additional details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
