Tata’s transformation from an old-school rickety carmaker to a modern marquee has entered the next phase. And we can say that because Tata’s all-new premium hatchback, the Project X451, has been spotted testing.
The all-new hatchback will be the first car to be built on the Advanced Modular Platform that has been developed by Tata Motors. Looking at the images that we have at our disposal, it is evident that the X451 will be styled quite similar to the Tiago, but we hope it gets some brawn from the Hexa as well.
In terms of size, the X451 is visually longer than the Tiago but Tata will certainly not go over 4m in length to benefit from the tax regulations. Tata’s first AMP-based car is expected to debut in late 2018 and we think the X451 might debut at the Auto Expo in February, at least in the concept form.
It might get the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron Petrol engine along with the 1.5-litre diesel engine that debuted with the Nexon earlier this year. The X451 will compete with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai i20.
