Tata Motor’s upcoming sub-four metre car, the Zest, has been spied testing again. This seems to be the same test mule that was spotted earlier with heavy camouflage. The regular appearances of the compact sedan hints that the company might be making some final changes to the car and preparing it for the launch.
The Zest, seen in the pictures, sports a redesigned chrome grille with two horizontal slats and a masked logo. The presence of smoked projector headlamps and alloy wheels indicate that the mule might be a top-spec variant. These few changes might differentiate the variants of the Zest.
The Tata Zest will be made available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol variant will be powered by the new 1.2-litre Revotron engine that churns out 84bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The diesel spec will continue to be powered by the 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine sourced from Fiat, which produces 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. These will be mated to a five-speed-manual gearbox. Tata might equip the some variants of the Zest with an AMT transmission as well.
The Tata Zest is based on the same platform as the Vista and Manza. All the details of the car were made available at the unveiling just before the 2014 Auto Expo. Tata then exhibited the Zest and the Bolt at the biennial event. The Zest will rival the new Hyundai Xcent, the Honda Amaze, the Maruti Swift Dzire and the upcoming Ford Figo sedan when launched in the Indian car market.
