Tata’s promising-looking Zica seems to have hit a roadblock even before hitting the showrooms. The brand has just announced that it has decided to rename this upcoming model and unfortunately it’s because of a recent virus outbreak.
Thing is, the car’s acronym was ‘Zica’ which is derived from ‘Zippy Car’ and there’s been a mosquito-transmitted virus outbreak called Zika growing rapidly across several counties in the world. Empathising with the hardships being caused by the outbreak, Tata Motors has decided to rebrand the car.
The Zica will be shown publicly for the first time at the Auto Expo 2016 in New Delhi. While it will carry the ‘Zica’ label for the duration of the event, Tata has made it official that a new name will be announced after a few weeks. The launch, meanwhile, will take place thereafter.
