- Tata will launch the Tiago and the Tigor in JTP avatar on 26th October
- Will get the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine
It’s time for enthusiasts to rejoice, Tata Motors is finally set to launch the JTP versions of the Tiago hatchback and the Tigor notchback. The cars were first seen at the 2018 Auto expo and we must say they looked delicious to say the least.
The ‘hotted up’ versions of the Tiago and the Tigor will get the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the Nexon. If it carries the exact same specs, both the cars will be good for 110bhp and 170Nm of torque which will make them significantly more powerful than cars like the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, which are currently one of the most powerful hatchbacks available in the market.
Talking about numbers, a top spec Tiago petrol XM weighs 977 kg while a Nexon XM petrol weighs in at 1,188 kg. Even once the bigger turbo petrol motor is plonked into the Tiago, we expect the Tiago’s weight to be pushed to a 1000 kg max and that’s still 200 kg lighter than the Nexon. What this promises is some really good power-to-weight figures which should make the Tiago an absolute hoot to drive. The Tigor which is slightly heavier should be equally fun behind the wheel. This will be further enhanced with a slightly sportier suspension set-up.
On the outsides, we have already seen what the cars will look like, blacked-out headlights, mesh grille with the JTP logo in red along with sportier accents all around. Interiors will follow the same treatment with aluminium pedals, leather seats and red accents.
The JTP cars will usher a new performance brand for Tata Motors and we think they are definitely headed in the right direction. More on the JTP twins coming soon!
