The Tiago hatchback from Tata Motors has been performing well in the Indian market. Neat styling and decent features at a lucrative price tag has found many takers in the country. In order to thrill the younger car buying lot, the Indian automaker will be introducing a powerful Tiago variant likely to be called Tiago Plus/Sport in the country sometime in the last quarter of this year.
Except for mechanical tweaks, the new Tata Tiago variant will not get major cosmetic upgrades. The upcoming variant will be directly introduced in dealerships in the coming months. The existing model is powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder Revotron petrol engine which generates 84bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. This engine will be tweaked to generate an additional 30-35 per cent power thereby likely to generate about 105-110bhp of power and is likely to continue being offered in manual transmission.
Given the current price range at which the Tiago is offered, the new powerful variant might as well emerge as the lowest priced performance hatchback in the country and competes strongly against the upcoming Baleno RS from Maruti Suzuki and Polo GT TSI. It is likely that the upcoming performance variant will only be offered in top spec trim. It might be offered with Harman music system with Bluetooth, i-Pod connectivity, AUX and USB input. For safety, it might get ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and front airbags as standard. More details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
