The Tata Tigor (codenamed Kite 5) will be launched for the Indian market on March 29. This was announced by Guenter Butschek, MD, Tata Motors, at the unveiling of the RaceMo sportscar during day 1 of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It is the new compact sedan based on the Tiago hatchback and was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The Tigor has been termed by the automaker as a compact styleback and will be the first of its kind in this part of the market. It carries the same design philosophy as the Tiago but with the rear end now getting a boot. It is a similar story on the inside as the Tigor will share its design and feature list with the Tiago. Given its sedan leanings, Tata may offer the cabin with an optional beige trim.
It will be offered with the 1.2-litre Revotron engine and the 1.1-litre Revotorque diesel engine. The former can be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT while the latter is offered only with a five-speed MT.
The Tigor will take on the likes Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Nissan Micra Active and the entire Datsun family of cars but will have the advantage of offering the sedan body style. This should be its advantage when it comes to USPs.
