- The Tiago NRG is the hatchback crossover similar to the Celerio X.
- Will remain same mechanically with added body claddings and an increased ground clearance.
- Will be launched on 12 September.
The demand for SUVs and crossovers has taken an upturn in the Indian market and is growing with every passing day. Now even the entry-level cars are succumbing to the crossover style and the newest in line is the Tiago. Tata will reveal the Tiago NRG which is the “cross-hatch” version of Tata’s successful hatchback on 12 September in India.
Similar to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X, the Tiago NRG will have contrast coloured body claddings all around. There will be faux skid plates both fore and aft to lend it a rugged appearance. The leaked images also preview roof rails on top, roof mounted spoiler and a black insert on the tailgate right between the tail lights. Even the mirrors and door handles will be done in black to lend it a utilitarian appearance. The wheels seen in the pictures are newly-designed 14-inch alloys. On the inside, the changes seem to be limited to contrasting orange inserts in an all-black cabin. The Tiago NRG will be available in three body colour options - Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White
Dimension wise, the Tiago NRG is slightly taller, longer and wider due to increased ground clearance and added body cladding. The standard Tiago has a ground clearance of 165mm which has been increased to 180mm. Meanwhile, its length has increased to 3793 mm from 3746mm, the width is 1,665 mm compared to 1647mm and the overall height is 1,587 mm over 1,535mm of the standard car.
The Tiago NRG will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The mechanicals remains unchanged, so the petrol engine would be the 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit producing 84bhp and 114Nm. The diesel is the 1.0-litre, three-pot motor which puts out 69bhp and 140Nm. Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission with no automatic as an option.
The Tiago NRG will be positioned as a rival to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X apart from more expensive Mahindra KUV100 and Ford Freestyle.
