Tata Motors will launch the Tiago hatchback in India tomorrow. Originally scheduled to launch at the Zica in January, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio rival, is finally launching tomorrow in both petrol and diesel guise.
Based on the modified Indica platform, the Tigao looks like the first properly new car under the Tata’s HorizonNext strategy. The hatchback will be available with either the 1.2-litre Revtron petrol engine producing 84bhp and 114Nm or the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine producing 67bhp and 140Nm of torque. Both the engines power the front wheels via the five-speed manual transmission.
Tata is offering loads of features with the new hatchback. The top-spec variant gets Juke App to pair multiple phones, rear parking sensors and steering mounted audio controls. There are plenty of stowage bins in the car and the quality of the cabin has also vastly improved compared to their previous models.
Apart from the Celerio, the Tata Tigao also competes with the Hyundai i10 and the Chevrolet Beat. The hatchback is expected to have a very competitive sticker price of around Rs 4 lakh for the base trim, the top-end diesel should be around Rs 5.5 lakh.
