Tata Motors is now offering an XTA variant of their Tiago AMT model, priced at Rs 4,79,252 (ex-showroom New Delhi). Earlier, the Tiago AMT was only offered in the top-of-the-line XZA variant priced at Rs 5,25,752.
The new Tiago XTA grade is basically the Tiago XT equipped with an automated manual transmission (AMT gearbox). So features like body coloured ORVMs, full wheel covers and exterior door handles will be seen on the XTA variant as well. Also, the full fabric upholstery, dual-tone interior scheme, Tata's ConnectNext infotainment system and rear parking sensors will be common to both.
Although the Tata Tiago is available with petrol and diesel engine options, the AMT is exclusive to the petrol engine. This is a three-cylinder mill that produces 85bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. Apart from adding to the convenience of clutchless gearshifts, the AMT shifter also gets a sport mode and a creep function.
The Tiago AMT was introduced to the Indian market in March this year and received a fairly good response. Now, with a lower entry price due to the introduction of this lower trim, we can expect the AMT model's sales to grow. The only other petrol automatic cars in this price range are the Renault Kwid AMT (Rs 3.79 lakhs), Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT (Rs 4.49 lakhs), Maruti Suzuki WagonR AMT (Rs 4.83 lakhs), the Maruti Suzuki Ignis AMT (Rs 5.72 lakhs) and the Hyundai Grandi10 AT (Rs 5.97 lakhs).
