Tata dealerships are accepting bookings for the Safari Storme with the new 400Nm VariCOR engine for a token of Rs 50,000. The updated engine with higher power figures will be available only in the VX trim priced at Rs 13.52 lakh for 4x2 variant and Rs 14.91 lakh for 4x4 variant (ex-showroom Mumbai).
The Tata VariCOR engine was displayed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show with the Hexa concept. It is an update to the existing 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel powertrain, with power figures bumping up to 155bhp and 400Nm. The engine is mated to the six-speed manual transmission, offering better drivability. The weight of the Safari Storme with the new engine has also marginally increased by around 15 kilograms.
The updated engine delivers 80Nm more than the current model, which should result in a noticeable difference in performance. Overall NVH levels are also expected to improve with this update. The Vx 4x2 variant with the VariCOR 400 engine commands a premium of Rs 15,000 over the current model, while the 4x4 costs Rs 17,000 more.
Our sources confirm that the new versions will be available across the Tata dealerships, in the metro cities, for test drives by the end of this week. The deliveries are expected to commence in four weeks.
