Tata has confirmed that it will launch the new version of the all-new Safari on October 17. The new SUV based on the Aria platform will be called the Safari Storme and will be sold in India alongside the existing model.
The Safari Storme while retaining the same boxy old school SUV looks from the previous models has undergone a major facelift resulting in revisions to the design and various components both inside and outside the vehicle. The new SUV, which was displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo, will use the same 2.2-litre Dicor turbo diesel engine present in the current Safari dicor and the Aria. It will around 140bhp and 320Nm of torque, but is expected to be more fuel efficient. Needless to say that this version will also get four-wheel-drive, with toggle switch which can be used on-the-fly.
The pricing is expected to be marginally lower than the XUV500, its main rival, and much closer to the prices of the top-end diesel Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio.Stay tuned to Carwale for all the details from the launch. You can also read about the Storme in our upcoming cars section.
