Tata has launched its Safari Storme SUV in Nepal for 37.85 lakh NPR (Rs 23.84 lakh). The car was launched for the Indian market last October and is the latest iteration of one of the Indian SUV major’s best-selling vehicles over the last ten years.
The car will be sold by Tata’s exclusive partner in Nepal, Sipradi motors and is will be made available in two variant LX, VX 4X4 and with five different colours options; Urban Bronze, Sardinia Red, Pearl White, Pearl Champagne and Arctic Silver.
The Nepal spec Safari Storme is powered by the same mill that sits in the Indian car. This is a 2.2-litre diesel mill that produces 140PS and 320Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the either the rear or to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a shift on the fly four-wheel drive system.
While having a resemblance to the old vehicle on the outside, the Safari Storme is a completely new machine underneath. The ladder frame is all new. The underpinnings have been significantly revised and apart from the doors, all other body panels are new as well. It gets new projector type headlamps, a wide chrome grille and a less curvaceous body.
The Nepali spec vehicle costs almost Rs 10 lakh more than the version sold in Indian due to the hill nations taxation structure and the fact that the cars are brought into the country as CBUs from India. Over the last months Tata has launched most of its major models in Nepal including the Vista D90, a likely sign that it sees potential for growth there in the future.
Commenting on the launch of the New Safari Storme, Gurinder Singh, country manager, Nepal and Bhutan, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "In addition to our current dynamic offerings, we now introduce the Tata Safari Storme to our customers in Nepal. We are sure that customers will be delighted with the look and off road capability of the Real SUV, the Safari Storme.”
