Tata has launched the Safari Storme in Maharashtra for Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom Thane), the same price that was given when the SUV was unveiled in October. Till now the Storme was only available in Delhi and a few other major locations. But now Tata will launch it in a phased manner across the country through its 282 dealers and 33 Utility Vehicle dealerships.
Commenting on the launch, Karl Slym, MD, said, “In the Tata Safari Storme, we have once again demonstrated Tata Motors’ commitment to customer centricity. We were the first to introduce SUV’s in India. We now leverage our experience and customer understanding, creating an ideal SUV for today’s motorists, who desire in their vehicle a perfect combination of versatility and luxury.”
The SUV is available in four variants, LX, EX, VX (4x2 and 4x4) with the option of seven different colours – Urban Bronze, Sardinia Red, Pearl White, Pearl Champagne, Astern Black, Arctic White and Arctic Silver. The Safari Storme gets a warranty of three years or 100,000km, whichever is earlier and this is extendable up to four years or 150,000km.
While having a resemblance to the old vehicle on the outside, the Safari Storme is a completely new machine underneath. The ladder frame is all new. The underpinnings have been significantly revised and apart from the doors, all other body panels are new as well. It gets new projector type headlamps, a wide chrome grille and a less curvaceous body.
It is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged VARIcor engine which produces 138bhp and 320nm of torque. The highest trim also features the electronic. Shift on fly technology which allows the driver to shift to the 4x4mode on the move. The fuel efficiency claimed for the 4x2 is 14 kmpl and for the 4x4 is at 13.2 kmpl.
