Tata Motors has registered the Indica, Vista and the Safari Storme SUV with Indonesian Government. While the Vista and the Indica are both the top-end petrol variants, the Safari Storme is the two-wheel drive mid-level EX variant. According to a report from Kompass Otomotif, the company has issued a statement saying this step has been taken for a feasibility test in the Indonesian market.
Tata Motors entered the Indonesian market through its fully owned subsidiary, PT Tata, in September last year and is currently working on setting up its network in the country. It plans to assemble the vehicle via the CKD route.
While the company has clearly said that it is currently only assessing their feasibility in the market, it is likely that they may begin operations with the Nano hatchback and some of their commercial vehicles once their assembly facilities are in place.
