Tata Motors have opened bookings of the Tiago hatchback which is expected to be launched on March 28. Dealers have started accepting bookings of the car at a refundable amount of Rs 10,000.
The Tiago is the first vehicle from Tata Motors to feature the new Impact design philosophy. It has been developed with the inputs from Pune, UK and Italy design studios. It is a modern car with promising looks and gets practical and safety features along with an energy absorbing body structure.
The Tiago will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 83.8bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The oil-burner gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel mill that produces 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Tata Motors had first introduced this hatchback with the name Zica in December 2015. However, considering the name rhyming with the Zika virus, whose outbreak hit several countries across the globe, Tata Motors decided to get away from the controversy and rename it. Thereafter it was named as Tiago through the #Fantastico name hunt campaign. It will be launched this month in India and compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai i10.
