Tata Motors has just announced the roll out of the first batch of its new compact SUV, the Nexon. This new model is being manufactured at the brand’s Ranjangaon facility. It will be available with 1.2 litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine options and go on sale around this festive season.
The 1.2 turbo petrol is from the Revotron series whereas the 1.5L diesel engine comes from the Revotorq family. The 1198cc turbocharged petrol, in fact, is a 3-cylinder unit and develops 110bhp and 170Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. What’s bound to be more popular though is the diesel Nexon which features a 1496cc motor producing an identical 110bhp but a lot more torque, at 260Nm. The diesel also gets a 6-speed manual that should aid drivability and fuel efficiency.
According to Tata, the Nexon has been developed with inputs from global tech suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell. The Revotron engine will be manufactured at the Sanand facility while the Revotorq engine will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility. It will be the first in its segment to feature multi drive modes – Eco, City, and Sport. Standard features, meanwhile, will include a touchscreen audio system, electrically adjustable mirrors, climate control and a few more on the top-spec trims.
Tata will soon be despatching the cars to dealerships across the country in a phased manner. When launched during this festive season, the Nexon will be seen taking on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
