- Will likely be offered in top-spec version
- Could command a premium of Rs. 50,000 over diesel AT
Tata Motors is banking on big with its most successful product, the Nexon. Even after the launch of the Curvv EV and the debut of the Curvv, the Nexon is yet again in the news. A leaked image of the brand’s online configurator revealed information regarding a new powertrain combination, which is likely to be introduced in the coming weeks.
As seen in the picture above, the diesel-spec Tata Nexon is available to pair with a DCA (DCT gearbox). The variant in question is the Fearless+ S, which is the top-spec variant of the Nexon. Now, the automaker will introduce the dual-clutch automatic gearbox with the upcoming Curvv, and interestingly, all its engines will get the DCA gearbox. Even, the new 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine.
Currently, the Nexon does get a DCA gearbox, but with the petrol variants. However, with the speculation of the diesel Nexon getting the performance-focused DCA gearbox, the Nexon’s line-up will only get better for consumers who seek variety.
At present, Nexon's top-spec automatic diesel is priced at Rs. 15.6 lakh. On the other hand, the top-spec petrol DCT variant costs Rs. 14.8 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). We expect the Nexon diesel DCA to cost roughly Rs. 50,000 more than the AT version. The upcoming Tata Curvv will become the first model in its class to get a DCT gearbox paired with a diesel engine. And following that, the Nexon would be the first compact SUV to be offered with the same configuration.
