Tata has unveiled its Nexon compact SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. This is the production version of the vehicle and is based on Tata’s new Impact design philosophy. It was unveiled alongside the Kite 5 compact sedan and Zica hatchback.
The production version of the Nexon stays pretty close to the concept car that was unveiled a few years ago. It gets the mesh Tata grille, large swoopy headlights, angular bumpers and a grey colour bash plate. The side gets heavily flared wheel arches and 16-inch diamond cut wheels. At the back there is a two-tone paint job with a grey bash plate, rear spoiler and noticeably high ground clearance.
The cabin gets all the standard Tata elements that we have been seeing in Tata models off late but will for the first time debut a dash mounted Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a first in segment.
Under the hood, the Nexon will be offered with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill as well as the 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former is expected to produce 84bhp/140Nm of torque while the diesel will produce 110bhp and 260Nm of torque. Both engines are likely to be offered with a five-speed manual and an AMT for at least one diesel variant.
The Nexon will be a sub four-metre SUV and so will compete with the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300.
