- Will be the most powerful CNG SUV
- To be the first turbocharged CNG car
Tata Motors plans to have more CNG cars in its line-up as these are anticipated to gain a good market share in India in the coming years. The carmaker displayed the Nexon iCNG at the Bharat Mobility Show and here are the top five things to expect from it.
Power-packed
This CNG model is expected to be paired with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. The power output in CNG mode has not been disclosed yet. Nevertheless, it will be the first time such a combination will be offered in the Indian market. Hopefully, it will offer a power-packed performance as compared to conventional CNG models paired with a naturally aspirated engine.
Twin-cylinder technology
Like the modern Tata CNG cars, the Nexon iCNG will also come with twin-cylinder technology. It incorporates the use of two small cylinders instead of a big one and hence saves boot space.
Safety features
The carmaker will prioritise safety by using some modern tech. This will include a micro-switch that switches off the engine automatically while refuelling. Then, leak-proof materials will be used for the CNG kit to minimise the escaping of the gas. Moreover, we can expect Tata to provide thermal incident protection to safeguard against overheating and similar accidents.
Advanced ECU
Another much-anticipated feature is a single ECU for improved system control. It will boast features like automatic fuel switching, direct start in CNG, leak detection system, and a modular fuel filter design.
Price hike
Apart from the addition of new variants with the CNG, the launch will also warrant a price hike. This is irrespective of whether Tata Motors decides to use the turbo-petrol combo or the proven 1.2-litre naturally aspirated mill. The latter is seen on the Altroz and Punch CNG variants.
