- Will be offered with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
- First turbo-petrol CNG SUV in India
Tata Motors is amidst the preparation of the launch of the Curvv EV and the Curvv ICE in the country. While both models will be introduced in the market in the coming month, September will be equally important for the automaker with the launch of the Nexon CNG.
The Tata Nexon is currently available in a variety of powertrain options – petrol, diesel, and EV. And with the CNG version, the Nexon nameplate will become one of the most versatile offerings regarding powertrain choices.
The Nexon CNG will use the same twin CNG cylinder tech as the other Tata models. But unlike other products, the Nexon will get the CNG kit paired with a turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor, in standard mode, is capable of producing 118bhp and 170Nm of peak torque. As for the transmission option, the Nexon CNG will likely get a five-speed manual gearbox. Now, we have seen the CNG kit paired with an AMT gearbox in the Tiago and Tigor models. So, if Tata manages to bring an automatic gearbox with the Nexon CNG, then it can appeal to a wider audience that wants the convenience of an automatic transmission with the affordability of CNG cars.
Upon its launch in September, the Tata Nexon CNG will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG in the compact SUV segment. Meanwhile, it is expected to carry a premium of Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 80,000 over the standard version.
