Tata Motors will officially commence the bookings of the Nexon SUV on 11 September at Rs 11,000. The variant-wise prices, however, are expected to be announced by the carmaker on 21 September.
The Nexon will be the newest product from Tata to enter the Indian market. This compact SUV is based on the same platform that underpins the Tata Zest and the Bolt. However, it boasts of a new design language and many new features never seen in this segment before.
As for the powertrains, there is a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a new 1.5-litre diesel mill too. A six-speed manual transmission is standard across the variants, while an AMT gearbox is expected to be offered at a later stage.
The Nexon’s production had begun in July this year at the Tata-FCA joint-venture plant in Ranjangaon. Many dealerships had also started taking pre-orders earlier this month. The carmaker plans to start deliveries of the SUV by the end of this month. The Nexon will then compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in our country.
