- Nexon XMA and XZA to get AMT options
- Powered by existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options
- Likely to be pricier by Rs 50,000 – Rs 60,000 than the regular version
Tata’s popular selling compact SUV, the Nexon recently received an AMT option in the top spec XZA+ variant. Although priced competitively at Rs 9.41 lakhs (petrol) and Rs 10.3 lakhs (diesel), fresh reports have emerged stating that the company is considering introducing the AMT option in the lower spec XMA and the XZA variants as well. The fresh development is expected to further strengthen the Nexon’s foothold in the segment.
When introduced, the Nexon XMA AMT will be the most affordable AMT option, while the XZA AMT will stand as the mid-level offering. Mechanically, it will continue to be powered by the existing petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol iteration gets a turbocharged 1.2-litre engine that generates 108bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. The diesel version, on the other hand, gets a 1.5-litre unit that produces 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a new six-speed AMT which the company calls the Hyperdrive S-SG.
In an effort to keep the XMA AMT variant affordable and reachable for the masses, the company is expected to cut slack on expensive features such as projector headlamps with the LED DRLs and diamond cut alloy wheels. However, it continues to be offered with ConnectNext infotainment system with steering mounted audio controls, follow-me-home headlamps, electronically adjustable ORVMs, wheel covers, four speakers, power tailgate and more.
The Nexon XZA AMT on the other hand is expected to miss on features like keyless entry and a few more. It might be offered with a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, auto climate control, parking sensors with reverse camera and a cooled glovebox. Additionally the variant will also offer height adjustable driver’s seat, along with more features.
