Tata’s most popular SUV these days, the Nexon, has got another trick up its sleeve and it is the automated manual transmission. Offered with both petrol and diesel engines, the Nexon is the only SUV in its segment to get automatic options for both fuel types. The automatics have been launched only in the top-spec XZ Plus trims and that is why the price tags of Rs 9.41 lakhs for the petrol and the Rs 10.3 lakhs for the diesel seem a bit high. The lower trims with a more accessible price tag will be offered in due course of time.
Having said that, the XZ Plus gets LED DRLs with projector headlamps, dual tone paint scheme, fog lamps and rear spoiler along with the large 16-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the car comes with tablet-touchscreen display by Harmann with steering mounted audio controls, climate control, electrically folding wing mirrors, height adjustable driver seat and folding rear seats as well. It gets twin-airbags in the front and ABS with EBD as a part of the safety pack.
The Nexon competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Honda WR-V and the Ford Ecosport. Only the Ecosport gets an automatic option and even that is only with the petrol mill which makes the Nexon pretty much the only option in the diesel-automatic compact SUV segment. On the other hand, for this price, you can even get hold of the diesel Volkswagen Ameo TDI automatic with the DSG gearbox. There are also the C-segment sedans like the Maruti Ciaz AT, Honda City MT and the Hyundai Verna AT, but they are all petrol cars only.
