The Tata Nano Twist was recently launched in Bangladesh for 80,000 Takas (Rs 6.23 lakh) at a function in Dhaka. The India made car will be sold through Nitol Niloy Group- the sole importer and distributor of Tata vehicles in Bangladesh.
The Nano Twist, which is a power steering enabled version of the standard Nano, is priced at Rs 2.34 (Ex-showroom Delhi) in the Indian market and in comparison, this price tag of Rs 6.23 lakh in Bangladesh will surely raise many eyebrows. However, the huge difference in the car's price is due to the 45 per cent supplementary tax. This tax is levied by the Bangladeshi government for import of cars powered by an engine displacement less than 700 cc. The price can only be brought down if the government lifts the tax from the hatchback or if Tata plans to open an assembly plant in Bangladesh to assemble the vehicle locally.
The Tata Nano Twist is a small hatchback which is good for city use where driving in heavy traffic and finding a parking spot in a crowded place is a tedious task. The Nano with its small size does this job well and is preferred by many Indians. The Nano is powered by a 624 cc two-cylinder petrol engine that generates 37.4bhp of power and 51Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
The Tata Nano is changing its image from the world's cheapest car to a smart city car. With revisions to the exteriors and a feature list that includes front power windows, lockable glove boxes, a music system and now a power steering as well in the top-end variant, the car is enjoying a good demand in India from buyers looking for an entry-level car at an affordable price.
