Tata’s entry-level hatchback, the Nano, is going to new places and is winning global acceptance. A green Tata Nano was pictured by Suthesh Kumar and Balbir Singh around Seremban toll in Malaysia. However, there is no official news of the car being launched in Malaysia as yet.
According to media speculations, a few years ago Tata Motors had plans of selling the hatchback in Southeast Asia through Proton and Perodua. Both of them are big automakers. DRB-Hicom, one of Malaysia’s leading corporations, has a major stake in Proton and assembles cars in the region for Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Suzuki and Isuzu. It also has collaborated with Tata Motors for getting the commercial vehicles via the CBU and CKD route. However, there has been no mention of selling passenger cars for Tata yet.
Tata Motors seems to be on a serious plan of stepping up the visibility of the Nano in the global market. The developments going on for further expansion in the international market have garnered enough speed and if rumours are to be believed, the automaker will export the Nano to Malaysia in parts and will assemble it there. Speculations are that there are two factories for assembling and the distribution of the cars. It will happen through four distribution centres at Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, Johor Bahru and Penang.
