The Tata Nano diesel has been spied by the team at Autocar India testing virtually undisguised. Aprat from a host of spy shots we had also exclusively revealed to you in April that the Nano diesel will begin production in February next year and is likely to be launched by April 2014. The pictures reveal that Tata has given the diesel engined Nano revised bumpers, exhaust system design and more importantly what appears to be an openable rear hatch.
The Tata Nano diesel will be powered by a Garett sourced three-cylinder turbocharged common rail (DICOR) 800cc mill developing 42.9bhp and by virtue of being a diesel, a significantly higher torque figure. It is also believed that the facelifted Nano will make use of a plastic fuel tank in a bid to further reduce costs.
Tata recently undertook a massive product launch and revealed eight facelifted models across its range in a single day. It has been a hard few months for the Pune based SUV major with sales really down and capacity at their factories really being under-utilised. Now with a slew of CNG powered products as well as the diesel Nano on the anvil, it looks like Tata is aiming to reclaim lost market share.
