A Tata Nano with an openable boot lid and an AMT has been spotted on test probably outside of Pune where the Indian automaker has its main facility. The openable boot lid was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo but this is the first time that we are seeing the AMT in the car.
It is almost certain that the AMT gearbox is the same F-Tronic unit from the Zest compact sedan. Its presence here means that Tata has bigger plans for the box and it is expected to find its way into other cars from the manufacturer over the next few years.
External shots reveal that this is the ‘smiley-faced’ Nano. This is basically the new design language for the A-segment hatchback which by the look of it will keep the overall proportions but include a new fascia and rear end. It appears the interiors will be carried forward from the current car but with obvious changes that will bring the model up to date with the competition. We expect Tata to launch this Nano sometime next year and it will replace the current car completely.
