- Sanand plant currently running at full capacity
- Two new modular platforms will be distributed between the Pune and Sanand plants
The Sanand, Gujarat plant which was primarily built to build the Tata Nano has almost reached 100 per cent capacity and has delivered over 4.5 lakh cars till date. The Tata Tiago and the Tigor are being built at the facility along with the new Revotron and Revotorq engines.
Tata Motors is ramping up the production capacity of the Sanand plant which is spread over 110 acres of land to produce more number of engines as well as cars. With all the future Tata cars to be built on the new Alpha and Omega modular platforms, even the Tiago and Tigor will migrate to the new platforms in their next generation.
The two platforms will be distributed across the two manufacturing units in Pune and the Sanand with the latter taking up a larger share. We think it might be the Alpha platform as it will generate more volumes as against the expensive Omega platform.
The first car based on the Alpha platform will be the premium hatchback previewed as the 45X concept at the Auto Expo earlier this year and is expected to arrive in the domestic market by the end of 2019. The Tata Harrier SUV, the first from the Omega platform, will debut early next year.
