A Delhi consumer forum has ordered Tata Motors to pay Rs 1.25 lakh as compensation to one of its customers whose car developed numerous defects within a year of purchase.
The New Delhi District Consumer Redressal Forum noted that the complainant faced numerous problems with his new car “due to imperfections in the car” and “shortcomings of the quality checks” by the company.
On the base of the job cards and work receipts presented by the complainant, the forum also noted that the engine and lots of other parts had to be replaced within the first year of purchase in 2005.
The complainant Khalid Hashmi had alleged that the car he had purchased in July 2004 developed problems right from the beginning and required replacement of its engine and several of its parts, despite which the issues persisted.
A bench presided by C K Chaturvedi held the company guilty of gross deficiency and awarded a total compensation of Rs one lakh to the complainant. Additionally a sum of Rs 25,000 towards litigation expenses was added to the compensation.
