Tata Motors will introduce the new hatchback and the sub-four-metre sedan, based on - ‘Project Falcon’, at the Auto Expo this year. The former is dubbed as the ‘Falcon 4’, while the latter is codenamed as ‘Falcon5’. These cars will underpin the same X1 platform that is seen on the outgoing Vista and the Manza.
The ‘Falcon 4’ is expected to replace the current Tata Vista when it is launched. It might go on sale by the end of this year. The vehicle has been designed at Tata’s design studio in Europe. On the mechanical front, both diesel and petrol engine variants will be made available. The oil burner will be powered by the same 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet mill from the Vista. However, a new 1.2-litre turbo-charged motor will be seen on the petrol version. This revised engine, similar to the Xeta mill, will be the base for the family of engines which the carmaker has been working on. The large capacity engines, based on the current platform, may have direct fuel injection.
The upcoming sub-four-metre sedan from Tata has been codenamed as the ‘Falcon 5’. It will take the place of the current Manza and will be slotted in a position higher than the present Indigo eCS. This car will also go on sale this year, around the same time, with the hatchback. The vehicle will be powered by the 1.3-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat (also found in the Manza). It is capable of producing 89bhp of power. Nevertheless, the petrol variant, houses the new 1.2-litre turbocharged engine and is expected to be more powerful than the oil burner churning out more than 100bhp of power.
It is speculated that these new vehicles from Tata have no similarities with any of the products from the carmaker. Apparently, Tata Motors will drop the Vista and Manza names altogether. It will not name the new cars on the project name and come up with a totally new name altogether.
