Tata Motors has teased a new small car (a.k.a the Kite) for the Indian market via a new commercial. The advertisement publicises its recent appointment of Argentinian football superstar Lionel Messi as Tata's new brand ambassador for its passenger vehicles.
The video reveals elements of the new car including the shape of the tail lamp, door handles, grille and some part of the fascia. We already know that this car will get the new age Tata mesh grille with the‘T’ logo that we have seen on models like the Zest, Bolt and more recently the Hexa MPV.
The headlamps are expected to be very similar to what is available on the Zest and Bolt. It gets a chrome element running along the outer edge of the assembly. We can also see hints of a black bumper under the number plate.
Pictures reveal a body coloured door handle but this is expected to be offered only on the top-spec variants with the lower models getting black units. Finally, a screengrab of the wrap around tail lamp shows us a U-shaped stop lamp with reverse lights built into the centre. We can also see a rear wiper as well as defogger element indicating that these features will be available on the top-spec models.
The Tata Kite is expected to be launched next year and will be available both as a hatchback and as a compact sedan. It will most likely succeed the Tata Indigo eCS as well as the Indica in Tata’s passenger vehicle hierarchy.
The new hatchback and compact sedan will be available in petrol and diesel engine options. Speculations suggest that Tata Motors might power the upcoming car from the set of new three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. We can also expect the AMT gearbox to be offered in the top-of-the-line variant.
