Tata Motors’ surge in sales numbers has been steady and with over 17,000 cars sold in February 2018, that’s a whopping 45 per cent increase over the sales in February 2017. Tata Motors had breached its two-year record when it sold just over 20,000 units in the month of January 2018 and such robust sales will certainly help the Indian carmaker recover its lost ground in the Indian car market.
The stars of this performance are the Tiago and the Nexon. The Tiago has become the re-incarnation of the Indica, the small-car that turned Tata’s fortunes around at the turn of the millennium with its unique proposition. The Tiago has helped Tata Motors turn a new leaf in terms of design, build quality and value proposition, while also ensuring cash-flow through steady sales. This has helped Tata Motors work freely on the Tigor hatchback and the Nexon compact SUV, both of which have gained generous traction.
The Nexon is competing head to head with the Honda WR-V and the Ford Ecosport while the big-SUV, the Hexa, is slowly making its presence felt on the roads. With the 45X hatchback already in its testing phase and the H5X SUV looking set for a launch within a year, Tata Motors should be aiming for 30,000 units a month by 2019 if not earlier.
