Managing Director of Tata Motors, Karl Slym, died in Bangkok earlier today. No further details have been provided by the auto major at this moment and the official statement says that Mr Slym was in Bangkok to attend Tata Motors Thailand’s board meeting.
“Tata Motors deeply regrets to announce the untimely and tragic demise of its Managing Director, Karl Slym, in Bangkok earlier today. Karl Slym was in Bangkok to attend a meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Thailand Ltd. Karl Slym joined Tata Motors in October 2012, and was providing leadership to the company through a challenging market environment. The company shares in the grief of Karl Slym’s wife and family at their irreparable loss”, the company said in the statement.
Tata Motors chairman Cyrus Mistry said, “Karl joined us in October 2012, and was a valued colleague who was providing strong leadership at a challenging time for the Indian auto industry. In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl’s wife and family.”
Before joining Tata Motors, Karl Slym headed General Motors India keeping their business profitable even through 2009, when GM was suffering across the globe including the US.
