Tata Motors may invest up to a Billion Pounds to start a production facility in Romania. According to a report from Dailybusiness.ro, the Indian SUV major has expressed interest in a site at the Tetorom 3 industrial park at the Jucu village which is being promoted by the Cluj County Council near the city of Cluj.
This plant, if built, will become a full-fledged facility producing passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses for the European markets. This plant will also produce the next generation Tata Nano which will be compliant with the latest EU emission regulations.
The report suggests that Tata would localise a lot of the components by sourcing them from local vendors to obtain tax benefits. It would also help Tata price its vehicles competitively for the European market where it currently sells the Indica Vista, Manza, Telcoline pickups, Aria MUV and the Xenon.
