In a move that was long expected to happened, Tata Motors is likely to launch two SUVs that will be underpinned using technology and platforms developed for them by Land Rover. A report from Livemint suggests that the car will be size of the Land Rover but will be priced at a much lower Rs 10-15 lakh and will be launched in 2016.
The report says that while the first SUV will have a Tata badge and will make use of their architecture, performance, technology and most probably body construction techniques. We also expect that Land Rover will influence the styling and overall design of the SUV.
There is no word on the second vehicle but we believe that it will be a crossover of sorts as that is the next major developing segment in the global car market. The report also includes information saying that Land Rover will influence the next generation Tata Aria as well as the Tata Safari SUV.
While the move to influence Tata’s design is long overdue, it is likely that the Indian SUV auto major may have to speed up its time lines if it wants to make an impact with its new vehicles. It sales figures while not low are quite the opposite of where they were just three years ago.
