Tata Motors has silently launched the Movus in India for Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The MUV gets a revised 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine and retails in two trims – CX and LX.
Mr. Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The all-new Movus is a great proposition for large families as it is spacious, easy to maintain, economical for both short and long distances, delivering great value without compromising on comfort. As an entry-level UV, the all-new Movus, a big and reliable vehicle comes at a price point which will provide our customers with best-in-class ride quality, making it a perfect partner for every journey. The vehicle is commercially available at dealerships located in metros and select cities.”
The 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel mill in the Movus produces 118bhp and 250Nm torque which returns significantly improved efficiency figure of 15.16 kmpl. The engine powers the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The Movus is available with a host of flexible seating options with captain seats, front facing and side-facing seven, eight and nine-seater configurations respectively. It is offered in two colour schemes- Porcelain White and Meteor Silver and gets a 3-years or 1,50,000 kms engine warranty.
With this price tag, the Movus has been positioned against the entry-level MUVs like the Mahindra Xylo, Bolero and Chevrolet Tavera, though the new price undercuts the competition by a good margin. With this new name, Tata has given the Movus an independent slot in the line-up and tried to shed the image that comes along with a ‘Sumo’ moniker. The Sumo used to be the hot favourite of fleet operators until Mahindra came up with the Xylo. In the hopes of bouncing back in the segment, Tata has adopted a very aggressive pricing strategy for the Movus and now, all they need to do is market the UV properly to ensure its success.
