Tata Motors has launched the CNG versions of its mid-sized sedan Indigo and Indica hatchback. The cars have been launched under its emax series and has been priced at Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
The new emax range of cars has both petrol and CNG options. The company claims that the CNG is gaining momentum in the Indian automobile market due to which they have introduced the CNG range of cars to cash in on the segment. The Indigo CNG and the Indica CNG have been launched in six states across India – Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.
Tata Motors had first showcased their emax range at an event called “Horizon Next” which was held in Pune in June. The company had announced to launch these vehicles in a phased manner with Nano being the first CNG car.
The Indigo CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that churns out 65bhp and 100Nm of torque in petrol mode and 56hp and 90Nm of torque in CNG mode. The company claims a fuel efficiency of 24.6km/kg on CNG giving it a 230km range and 650 km on petrol. The Indica CNG gets the same engine but due to its heavy weight, it returns 23.7 km/kg with a range of 230 km and 600 km on petrol.
