Tata Motors has been gung-ho about the Auto Expo 2018 with a slew of concepts and ideas ready to be showcased on India’s biggest automotive stage. The Auto Expo 2018 is supposed to usher Tata Motors into the next phase of their journey and now we know why.
The leaked image of the H5 concept shows a two-row crossover SUV that has already been spotted testing with heavy camouflage. The rendering shows typical Tata lines and the signature smiley face which finds a sweet spot between the Nexon’s appeal and the Hexa’s aggression.
But the most interesting thing is that this SUV has been built on the Land Rover platform and will be a Hyundai Creta rival. The Land Rover platform, with its aluminium-infused architecture is an expensive affair and to fit it within the economies of the Creta-segment is certainly laudable. The aluminium will certainly be replaced by more cost-effective materials, but the inherent beauty of this platform will certainly make the H5 a force to reckon with. Add the independent suspension at all four ends, and we are talking about performance of international standards.
Also, the flexibility of the this platform, which we have already seen in the Discovery Sport, a three-row seven-seat option is always on the cards which might very well be the H7 concept. This can ideally replace the Hexa, so to speak, or become a rival for the XUV500 as the all-new Safari. This platform will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel from Fiat that also powers the Jeep Compass and we are sure about this because Tata Motors has already placed an order for more than a lakh engines already.
The H5 might come with the 140bhp setup while the larger H7 will get the 180bhp setup, making it one of the most powerful machines in the segment, something that Tata has already done with the Nexon, and are reaping its benefits.
Stay tuned to Carwale for more dope on the new Tata SUVs as we head to Delhi for the Auto Expo next week.
