Bollywood movies chase scenes more often than not include the villain/hero escaping in a snazzy car and with the police in hot pursuit in rickety vehicles. Sometimes, it’s the bad guy that wins and sometimes the long arms of the law catch up with the criminal. The police are feeling the heat and the need to upgrade to better vehicles to be ahead of the baddies. As a result, the police and law enforcement agencies, across the country, have placed an order for 1,542 Sumo Golds with Tata Motors.
Needless to say, this order is a great opportunity for Tata Motors. The vehicle was chosen because of its performance. As one of the country’s largest selling utility vehicles, the Sumo Gold is one of the most powerful entry-level SUVs. With peak power of 85PS @3000 rpm, the Sumo Gold provides a fuel economy of about 15 kmpl, a best-in-class ground clearance of 182mm, a rugged un-matched drive experience and with the lowest cost of ownership, the car is a great partner for the law enforcement agencies.
Commenting on the orders, Mr. Vernon Noronha, Vice President, Defence & Government Business, Tata Motors said, “The Tata Sumo was conceived and designed keeping in mind the need for a rugged, comfortable and reliable vehicle that was powerful and versatile, with the ability to do almost everything with ease, including negotiate narrow city roads. These strong attributes have made the Tata Sumo popular in both commercial and personal transportation segments, and with law enforcements agencies. As a leading partner in supporting the country’s police and paramilitary forces, we at Tata Motors are proud to have received these orders for the Tata Sumo Gold utility vehicle and we will soon commence deliveries.”
Tata Motors has been associated with the country's off-road defence and security forces, since 1958 and has supplied over 1,00,000 vehicles to the Indian military and Paramilitary forces, so far. Tata Motors’ products like the Safari, Sumo and the Indigo are extensively used by the upper echelons of bureaucracy as well as for state administrative services. This order only goes on to cement the company’s contribution to the country.
