Tata Motors acquired the Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) group in 2008, and since then there have been speculations that there might be components and platform sharing. While there was no news from the Indian manufacturer on this part, now rumours indicate that Tata might be working on a model based on the new Discovery Sport.
The source adds that the vehicle codenamed Q501 will share the platform, but the car will look entirely different. It might use Fiat's engine expertise to power the vehicle and the 2.0-litre MultiJet II mill might be considered.
If this rumour were to be true then it could change the whole perception of the Tata brand worldwide. These are early days to contemplate how the model will look like inside-out, but expect the British SUV maker to play a crucial role in this vehicle's development.
