Tata Motors might bring the automatic version of the Aria to the Auto Expo scheduled to take place in February in New Delhi. Apart from the changes to the gear box, the vehicle is also expected to have some cosmetic changes and additional features.
Though there is no confirmation about the launch, rumours of the unveiling are doing rounds of the web for a while. The changes to the exterior of the car include a revised set of projector headlamps and revised taillamps. The car might stand tall on a new set of alloy wheels. Tata may also make alterations to the seating arrangement of the car by replacing the bench type seats by individual captain ones. The quality of the materials used in the interiors and upholstery might also be upgraded.
The crossover was brought into the Indian car market to pamper the buyer with loads of space and comfort without giving up luxury or performance. Now the manufacturer may be planning to introduce an automatic version of the Aria which was lacking ever since the car was launched in India. This model when launched should be placed as the top-of-the-line variant.
The Aria will be powered by the same 16 valve 2.2-litre Dicor diesel engine producing 138bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. However, this is expected to be re-tuned to churn out an additional 15bhp of power and 80Nm of torque. The main highlight would be the six-speed automatic transmission speculatively sourced from GM Motors.
Tata’s flagship model of the crossover, the Aria has not been doing well in terms of sales in the country. Nevertheless, the company still believes in the vehicle meant to possess qualities of both an SUV and an MUV. The carmaker will be hopeful of turning around the product with the launch of this facelifted Aria.
