Tata has launched the Nano CNG emax for Rs 2.45 lakh (ex-showroom Ahmedabad). The car is available in two variants and has been priced at Rs 45,000 more than the equivalent variant of the standard car. It was first unveiled during the Indian automaker’s Horizon Next held at its Pune factory on June 8. It will soon be joined by the Indigo eCS CNG and the Indica CNG and two more vehicles which will be unveiled next year.
The Tata Nano CNG is powered by an inline 2-cylinder 624cc engine developing 38bhp power at 5250rpm and 51Nm torque at 4000rpm on petrol. When running on CNG, the engine develops 33bhp power at 5500rpm and 45Nm torque at 3500rpm. Tata has placed the CNG tank below the front seats in a bid to give maximum space in the cabin.
The company has said that the sequential gas injection system of the Tata Nano CNG emax, is thoroughly calibrated with an intelligent advanced Engine Management System (EMS) for smart switching between CNG and gasoline fuel systems. This allows the vehicle to sense when the driver needs more power and thus, automatically shifts to using the petrol power. Switching between CNG and petrol driving modes on-the-fly is effortless, thanks to a push-button fuel type selector.
In terms of features, the Nano CNG emax is based on the standard car that was unveiled in June and has similar accessories, features and design cues.
Commenting on the launch of the Nano CNG emax, Ankush Arora, senior vice president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), Tata Motors said, "At Tata Motors, the core philosophy behind the launch of every new vehicle is anticipating what our customers need and blending it with the best-in-class technology and design engineering.
“This helps us arrive at an end product that suits the inherent automotive needs of our customers in a holistic way. From its inception, the Nano has been a path-breaking invention and the CNG version only adds to that and also underlines our commitment to be a sustainable automotive player," he added.
Tata has said that the Tata Nano CNG emax will now be available across CNG markets like Delhi, Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra and Lucknow as well. The company is likely to launch the vehicle in a phased manner in all the metros over the course of the next few months.
The Nano CNG will compete with the Alto CNG, Eon LPG and Spark LPG in the entry level hatchback segment.
