Not long ago, we managed to get up close with the prototypes of Tata’s forthcoming small car, the Kite. Driven by former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan, the hatchback was last seen in Lonavala alongside Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Now, yet another prototype has been spotted with production-ready exterior and interior bits.
The Kite shares much of its underpinnings with the Zest and Bolt but is likely to get smaller engines, with at least one variant with an automated manual transmission. The petrol-powered cars will get a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit while the diesel Kite will be powered by a 1.05-litre, three-cylinder engine biased towards efficiency.
With production-ready prototypes now out in the wild, the new Kite can be expected to officially arrive later this year, with prices ranging between Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh. When launched it will be positioned between Tata’s other small cars, namely the Nano and the Indica.
