Tata’s upcoming small car is in news again as Car Torque has spotted a new prototype model just outside Tata’s Engineering and Research Center in Pimpri, Pune. Codenamed Kite, this new vehicle will replace the long-running Indica when it goes on sale in the second half of 2015 or early 2016.
Going by the large amount of spy shots accumulated till date, the Kite seems to feature a tall-boy design, just like the Indica on which it’s based on. However, on closer inspection the Bolt-derived design elements can be found. The Kite, in all probability, will get completely new headlamps and restyled bumpers. At the rear, revised tail lamps will be placed horizontally unlike the Christmas-tree arrangement on the Indica.
The Kite is expected to make use of a 1.2-litre and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine options. An automated manual transmission (AMT) could also be offered for select variants.
When launched, the Kite could be positioned between the Nano and the Indica. As for the prices, expect ex-showroom prices to range anywhere between Rs 3.8 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh.
