A while ago, we had reported about a new small car from Tata called the “ Kite” being developed to take on the compact hatchback leaders like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Now an IAB reader has clicked few pictures of a prototype, which is smaller than the soon to be launched Bolt but bigger than the Tata Nano, making us believe the spied vehicle is one of the first prototypes of the Kite hatchback.
The Kite is based on an updated version of the Indica’s XO platform, which is why the front design cues look very similar to the Bolt. The car was spied testing along the Nano F-Tronic AMT, of which the latter is expected to launch soon.
The Kite prototype was covered with black camouflaged revealing very less information. But looking at the overall body proportions, the car doesn’t seem like the tall-boy design as expected. The Kite will be positioned above the Nano and below the Indica.
The Tata Kite will be launched in 2015 and is expected to get turbo petrol and diesel engines. It may also get the F-Tronic automated manual transmission that will debut with the Zest next month. Tata Motors will manufacture the Kite at their Sanand facility in Gujarat, which is currently being underutilised.
